Junior Leadership Northeast Program Held at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine

Leadership Northeast (LNE) recently held its Junior Leadership “Emotional Intelligence and Executive Leadership” program at the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM).

While at GCSOM, the 70 high school juniors were immersed in opportunities within the healthcare field, lessons in executive leadership, and Emotional Intelligence with Dr. Christine Kiesinger of CEK Communication. Dr. George Ruiz, System Chief of Cardiology, Vice Chair, Heart and Vascular Institute at Geisinger welcomed the students to the facility and presented them with information regarding careers in healthcare; Dr. Julie Byerley, Dean of GCSOM, spoke about the medical college and the type of well-rounded students they’re looking to attract to their school; and Jaewon Ryu, MD, JD, President and CEO of Geisinger, spoke about his career path and provided lessons in executive leadership. The students also received an in-depth tour of the school from current medical students.

“Healthcare gives,” Dr. George Ruiz said.It gives patients second chances and it gives a new generation of leaders the opportunity to make a difference that shapes and revitalizes our communities. Our hearts are in the communities we serve. The best way to strengthen our communities is to invest in our next generation of leaders. That is what we did today!”

“This program was a remarkable example of what true community partnership can accomplish when we focus on developing the future together,” said Jessica Cronauer, Executive Director of LNE. “We were humbled by the generosity of time and resources offered by GCSOM and its team.”
