Luzerne County Head Start opened a sensory room at their center on Beekman Street today.
The room was created by a team of Headstart Heroes Leadership Northeast’s 2024 class for their project.
Sensory rooms are primarily used for kids on the autism spectrum, but they plan to allow all kids in the space.
Kids were able to enter the room for the first time today.
“It was heartwarming. It was the most amazing experience, I teared up,” said Jaclyn Reisser, a member of Headstart Heroes. “To see the children in there and enjoying that project we had in our heads and to see it come to life now and see the children in their enjoying it and how it’s going to help them through their ever day life was just heartwarming.”
Head Start is looking at placing similar sensory areas in other locations.
