WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — Leadership Northeast, a nonprofit community-based program that aims to help develop and implement civic projects, is shooting for another project in Wilkes-Barre as they look to renovate part of the Zebulon Butler House.
The goal is to transform a detached garage behind the Zebulon Butler House into the Lord Butler Antique Store as a way for the NEPA Preservation Society to showcase the many donations it receives from the time period when the house was built.
“In the antique store will feature the donations that were received by the Wilkes-Barre Preservation Society that won’t be going into the Zebulon Butler House as part of the preservation project. Other antiques that are donated by members of the community or by the Wilkes-Barre Preservation Society will be there. Things like bed frames, there’s old clocks, lamps, books, even clothing,” said Andrea Butchko of Knights of Lord Butler.
Leadership Northeast credits Tony Brooks of the NEPA Preservation Society for bringing awareness and attention to the Zebulon Butler House. The house is also the oldest in Wilkes-Barre being built in 1793.
